Amber Fort in a nutshell
Amber Fort stands on a hill above the town of Amer, about 11 km from Jaipur. You will also see it written as Amer Fort, Amer Palace or Amber Palace. All four names mean the same complex. Work on the palace began in 1592 under Raja Man Singh I, and Mirza Raja Jai Singh finished it. The complex has four main areas, each built around a courtyard, and uses sandstone and white marble. In front of it lies Maota Lake, which shapes the view from the palace.
The best-known parts are the Sheesh Mahal with its mirrored walls and ceilings, the Diwan-i-Aam where the ruler heard public petitions, and the painted gate called Ganesh Pol. The fort is part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site listed in 2013.

What this guide covers
Everything around the fort, in one place.
This is an independent site. It is not run by the state archaeology department, a tourism board or any tour company. It explains what a visit costs, when the gates and the evening show run, which tours exist and what the neighbouring sights are. Prices are in Indian rupees (INR), as listed in 2026, and they change.
Jaipur itself, with the Hawa Mahal, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, has its own guide. See the Hawa Mahal and Jaipur guide for the city, and this site for Amer and the forts around it.

Timings โElephant rides stop and start
Rides have paused for festivals and safety reasons, and the rate has changed more than once since 2025. Walking and jeeps are the other ways up.
Elephant ride rules โJaigarh and Jal Mahal work differently
